The Ilah Gieser Music Scholarship Fund

635941658213730000Ilah Gieser (1911–1999), a long-time GP resident, inspired this scholarship. She believed in education, loved music, and felt very strongly that children should have opportunities. In 1997, at age 85, Ilah organized the first Musicale to raise money for the first scholarship. After over 27 years, this Musicale continues to bring together town residents, friends, and student performers to share music and fund the next scholarship.

The Garrett Park Women’s Club presented the first scholarship after raising money through a bake sale and selling Musicale tickets. In 1999, the club renamed the scholarship in Ilah’s honor: the Ilah Gieser Memorial Music Scholarship. We continue to raise funds for music education from donations at the Musicale. Today, the annual scholarship is a self-sustaining, vital addition to our community.

This Fund provides resources for private instrumental music lessons for a rising 5th grade music student at Garrett Park Elementary School.

A yearly Musicale featuring the talents of Garrett Park residents helps to fund this scholarship. Anyone with a musical talent, young or old, is welcome to participate. The Musicale takes place in the late spring. See the contacts below for more information:
